Wordsareabletoconveythetrueattitudes.Butatthesametime,wordscanbewellusedasameanstodeceiveothersortohidethetrueintentionsofthespeaker.Thisisnotnecessarilylies.Whenoneperosonoragourpofpersonsclearlyandunequivocallyarticulateattitudestowardssocial,economic,cultural,orreligionproblems,thesewordsareusedperfectlytoconveythethoughts.Forinstance,whentheChinesepresidentHuJintaoclealryclaimedthattheproblemsinTibetfallinthescopeofChinesedomesticpoliticalandculturalissues,thesewordsrevealtheattitudesofhisadministration.Butnotinallcaseshumansarewillingtoentirelyandclearlyexpresstheirattitudesintheformofspeechesorwords.Undersuchconditions,wordsmightleadtheaudiencestogoastray.Forexample,inmanycases,whenaChinesegirlreceivesabandleofrosefromherboyfriend,shewillnotusewordsinliteralmeans.Rather,she,notcalculatedly,preferstousewordsinfigurativeorevenambiguoussenses.Aparticularbuttypicalsentenceinsuchcaseis“Ihateyou”.Paradoxically,whengirlssaythewords,theiractionsshowthattheylovetheboys.
