You see, I bought a blender, or juicer, you know, those kinds of gadgets(小玩意) you’d use to make juice or something. I bought it online cuz there was a huge discount. As I recalled, it only cost me about 50 rmb, which is quite a bargain. The problem was, when I opened the package, there was not instruction manual in the box at all, so I had absolutely no idea(對某事一無所知) about how I would assemble the parts together. I tried to reach out to customer service, but I guess they were off the clock(下班了), so I was only answered by an android(機(jī)器人), which wasn’t really helpful. Anyway, then I decided to look it up on the internet, and see if I could find some other poor guys just like me. I hoped they’d managed to solve it and uploaded their experience on forums. I think I spent… Oh I don’t know, hours, searching for the relevant information. And finally, on a very remote website, I found this blog, complaining about this “instruction-less” crisis. Fortunately the guy sounded quite smart and worked it out(解決問題). So I followed his steps and solved it in about five minutes. I felt quite tired and a bit of anger with the supplier, but more importantly, I had a sense of huge achievement.

Unlike physical books, the Internet provides us with a much more efficient engine to search for what we need. These activities online are relaxing and entertaining, so people enjoy them in their leisure time.

I suppose people might be able to have their memory stored on the Internet in the future. We now already have cloud storage on the Internet to keep our data safe. As we grow old, our memory fades and as a result, we might lose important experiences of the past that make our life meaningful. It would be incredible to create a technology that enables us to permanently keep all our memory. I imagine that there would be an online system that stores memory with people’s permission. As soon as we enter the correct password, we can access, edit and delete our memory whatever we want.

3. Do you think many people waste time online?

Yes, I think it is true that many people waste time online. The Internet is a mix of useful and damaging information. Quite a lot of people fail to resist addictive information online that ends up wasting their time and ruining their future. Violent video games and pornography are two very typical examples. I think it is up to the government and parents to figure out how to protect people from addictive information online.

4. What impacts does the Internet have on schools?

The Internet can be beneficial and damaging for schools at the same time. The technology enables teachers to search for useful information that can make their classes much more informative and educational. Thanks to the Internet, students now have access to online courses, which can save them a lot of time and money. Nevertheless, with tons of addictive information, the Internet also distracts a lot of student from learning, which negatively affects their performance at school.
