Peoplehavedifferentviewsaboutthefundingofcreativeartists.Whilesomepeopledisagreewiththeideaofgovernmentsupportforartists,Ibelievethatmoneyforartprojectsshouldefrombothgovernmentsandothersources.

Someartprojectsdefinitelyrequirehelpfromthestate.IntheUK,therearemanyworksofartinpublicspaces,suchasstreetsorsquaresincitycentres.InLiverpool,forexample,thereareseveralnewstatuesandsculpturesinthedocksareaofthecity,whichhasbeenredevelopedrecently.Theseartworksrepresentculture,heritageandhistory.Theyservetoeducatepeopleaboutthecity,andactaslandmarksortalkingpointsforvisitorsandtourists.Governmentsandlocalcouncilsshouldpaycreativeartiststoproducethiskindofart,becausewithouttheirfundingourcitieswouldbemuchlessinterestingandattractive.

Ontheotherhand,Icanunderstandtheargumentsagainstgovernmentfundingforart.Themainreasonforthisviewisthatgovernmentshavemoreimportantconcerns.Forexample,statebudgetsneedtobespentoneducation,healthcare,infrastructureandsecurity,amongotherareas.Thesepublicservicesarevitalforacountrytofunctionproperly,whereastheworkofcreativeartists,eveninpublicplaces,isaluxury.Anotherreasonforthisopinionisthatartistsdoajoblikeanyotherprofessional,andtheyshouldthereforeearntheirownmoneybysellingtheirwork.

Inconclusion,therearegoodreasonswhyartistsshouldrelyonalternativesourcesoffinancialsupport,butinmyopiniongovernmenthelpissometimesnecessary.
